When I first started writing Bloodlines of the Void, I hoped readers would connect with Ailith Hardin.
I hoped they’d laugh at her complete disregard for military protocol, appreciate the constant tug-of-war between chaos and order aboard the ANS Dominion, and slowly fall in love with the crew as much as I did while writing them.
What I didn’t expect was to be sitting here celebrating an incredible milestone:
45 Goodreads Reviews
That number may seem small compared to blockbuster releases, but to an indie author, every single review represents something incredibly meaningful.
Someone chose to spend hours in the world I created.
Someone met Ailith, Aris, Charles, Ramos, Dr. Vanya, and the rest of the crew.
Someone reached the final page—and then decided it was worth taking even more of their time to tell other readers about it.
That’s a gift I never take for granted.
Today, Bloodlines of the Void sits at a 4.57-star average on Goodreads, and reading your reviews has been one of the highlights of this entire journey.
The Characters Found Their People
When I read through the reviews, one thing stands out over and over again.
People aren’t just enjoying the story.
They’re falling in love with the characters.
Frankie summed up what so many readers have echoed:
“I read this book in two sittings. I simply could not put it down.”
She also mentioned something that makes me smile every time I read it:
“The banter is fantastic!”
— Frankie
Melissa M. perfectly captured Ailith’s unique energy:
“I devoured this book from the very beginning to the very end!!”
Heather B. highlighted what has always been the emotional heart of the novel:
“Their banter, mutual respect, and growing connection kept me turning the pages.”
And Dee D. said something every author hopes readers feel:
“The world building here is excellent, with enough intricacy to immerse you but without being overcomplicated and difficult to follow.”
A Book That Crosses Genres
One of the biggest surprises has been hearing from readers who don’t normally read military space opera.
Several reviewers admitted they stepped outside their comfort zones—and ended up discovering characters they couldn’t stop thinking about.
Lindsayrosereads wrote:
“Bloodlines of the Void absolutely blindsided me in the best way.”
She also perfectly described one of my favorite parts of writing Ailith:
“Ailith’s dry humor and weaponized professionalism had me laughing constantly.”
Christina L., who doesn’t usually read sci-fi, shared:
“It’s the perfect mix of military action, compelling characters, slow-burn chemistry, and enough twists to leave you desperate for the next installment.”
That’s exactly what I hoped this series could become.
Military sci-fi.
Slow-burn romance.
Psychological suspense.
A little humor.
A little horror.
A lot of complicated people trying to do the right thing while making spectacularly questionable decisions along the way.
And Then There’s… That Ending
Apparently, I owe several of you an apology. (I mean I’m not apologizing, it would be a lie. I’m not sorry)
Or maybe Book Two.
Possibly both.
Nearly every review mentions the ending in one way or another.
Some readers were shocked.
Some were confused.
Some immediately demanded the sequel.
Kathryn wrote:
“This book made me laugh, hit me in the emotions, and completely pulled me into this world and these characters.”
And yes…
I saw all the comments about needing Book Two immediately.
Mission accomplished?
Maybe.
